Beyond the Mat is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu learning app built in Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium, by a small team of people who train. It exists because most beginners quit BJJ within two years, and confusion is the main reason. The app teaches one position a day in an interactive 3D scene that you can rotate, look underneath and see from every angle, then checks the idea landed with a few questions. Six in-app coaches each cover a different part of the game. Progress, streaks and levels borrow from language-learning apps. It is free to download with all lessons included, with an optional subscription at 2.99 a month that removes adverts and lifts the daily limit. Available on iOS and Android in English, French and Dutch, with free club tools for coaches opening in 2027. beyondthemat.app
