Terms and conditions

Last updated

These terms apply when you use this website or join our waiting list, and to the Beyond the Mat app once it is released. By using the site you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.

1. Who we are

Beyond the Mat is made by Beyond Sports BV, a company registered in Belgium at Pastoor Cooremansstraat 3, 1702 Groot-Bijgaarden, enterprise number BE 1032.360.607. Where these terms say we, us or our, they mean Beyond Sports BV.

2. Using this website

You may read this site, and join the waiting list, for your own use. You may link to it.

You may not copy the site or its contents for your own commercial use, try to break into it, interfere with how it works for other people, or use automated tools to scrape it.

3. The waiting list

Joining the waiting list means we will email you when the app opens in your language, and nothing else. It does not create an account, it does not reserve anything, and it costs nothing.

You can leave the list at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us. What happens to your details is set out in our privacy policy.

4. The app, and what it will cost

The app is not released yet. We expect it on iOS and Android in autumn 2026.

When it is released it will be free to download, and the core experience will be free to use. There will be an optional subscription at 2.99 euros a month for people who want it.

Any purchase or subscription goes through the App Store or Google Play, not through us. Their terms, their billing and their refund rules apply to it, including how you cancel.

Club tools for coaches are free, and we intend to keep them free.

5. Training safely

This is the most important clause here, so it is in plain words. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a contact sport and it carries a real risk of injury.

What we publish is teaching material. It is not personal instruction, it is not coaching, and it is not medical advice. It does not replace a qualified coach, and it is not meant to.

  • Train at a club, with a qualified coach, on suitable mats.
  • Practise with a willing partner who has agreed to what you are doing.
  • Warm up first, and stop if something hurts.
  • If you have an injury, or a health condition, or you are unsure whether you should be training, speak to a doctor before you start.
  • Never practise a submission on someone who has not agreed to it.

You are responsible for deciding whether you are fit to train and for training safely. We are not responsible for injuries that happen while you train. Nothing in this section limits the responsibility we cannot limit by law, which is set out in section 9.

6. Our content

We own, or have the right to use, everything on this site and in the app: the name Beyond the Mat, the logo, the coach characters, the 3D animations, the lesson text and the design. They are protected by copyright and trade mark law.

You may not copy, adapt, republish or distribute them without our written permission, and you may not record or re-share app content as if it were your own. Ordinary personal use, such as showing a technique to a training partner, is fine.

7. What you must not do

  • Use the site or the app to break the law, or to harass or threaten anyone.
  • Pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your grade, qualifications or affiliation.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile or try to extract the source of the app or its 3D content.
  • Resell access, or use the app to run a commercial class without our agreement.

If you do any of this we may suspend or close your access.

8. Availability

We would like the site and the app to be available all the time, but we cannot promise it. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of either, and we may take them down for maintenance.

The app needs a reasonably recent phone, and the augmented reality features need a phone that supports them and enough clear space around you to use them safely.

9. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. If you are a consumer, the consumer protection rules of the country you live in still apply, whatever these terms say.

Beyond that, we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for business losses such as lost profit or lost opportunity, or for content on websites we link to but do not run.

The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be error free or that the information on it is complete at every moment.

10. Links to other websites

Where we link to another site, such as the App Store, Google Play, Instagram or LinkedIn, we do not control it and we are not responsible for it. Their terms apply once you are there.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, and when we do we change the date at the top. If a change matters to you, for example a change to what the app costs, we will tell the people it affects rather than rely on a quiet update.

12. Law, and where disputes are heard

These terms are governed by Belgian law. Disputes are for the Dutch-speaking courts of Brussels, which are the courts for the judicial district of Halle-Vilvoorde, where our registered office is.

If you are a consumer, this does not take away your right to bring proceedings in the country where you live, and you can also ask the Belgian consumer mediation service to help settle a dispute before going to court.
